Cause of death was hemorrhage of the lungs

Married Mary Jane Houser on June 17, 1847

Thomas had the misfortune to lose his left arm, in his youth, by the accidental discharge of a gun while hunting, compelling him to abandon his trade as a carpenter & seek other pursuits. In 1845 he was treasurer of Venango County through 1847. 1848 he was Clerk to the County Commissioners. He was Sheriff for 11 years starting in 1853. Franklin Councilman in 1852,53,55,57,74. In 1862 he was involved with the Act of Incorporation of the turnpike. In 1866 he was involved with the making of Oil Creek Township. In connection with E.M. Epley, in 1862, he purchased the dry goods store formerly carried by Myron Park and continued in this as a member of the firm Martin & Epley until 1868. In 1867 Martin & Epley succeeded to Painters interest in the dry goods business. Thomas was school director for a 3 year term starting in 1862.
