Edward Herman was born June 9, 1937, in Victoria, Kansas, the seventh of eight children born to Edward and Sophia (Schuler) Herman.
The young family moved to Wichita, Kansas during the war. They later moved to Toronto, Kansas, where Ed finished the eighth grade in a one-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Coyville High School in 1955.
Ed worked construction until he joined the Navy in 1959, where he was an aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged on January 4, 1963. He attended college in Hays, Kansas for one year, studying business. He lived with his mother for a short time after his father passed away. In 1964, Ed moved to Las Vegas, where he worked construction at the Nevada Test Site.
In 1971, he met Rosie Catello. They were married in 1973. Ed helped raise Rosie’s children: Toni, Joannie and Joe.
In 1976, Ed and Rosie moved to Salmon with Rosie’s son Joe. They purchased the Silver Spur Bar and ran that for a few years. When they sold the bar, Ed worked construction until his retirement in 2000. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Ed is survived by his sister, Agnes Herman of Hays, Kansas; and brother, William Herman of Petaluma, California; Rosie’s children: Toni Munson of Elko, Nevada, Joannie Catello (Donald Newman) of Elko, Nevada, and Joe Catello of Sacramento, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie in 2010, his parents and five siblings.
A Memorial Mass will be held at the St. Charles Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Dat Vu conducting. Inurnment will be in the Salmon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon, Idaho.
