Alfred Barton Dies at Matador

A heart attack on Friday, May 26, took the life of Alfred Barton, Sr., 80, of Matador, the father of Mrs. Claude Groves and a native of Motley County.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 28, at First Baptist Church in Matador, of which he was a member.

Mr. Barton was the son of a pioneer Motley couple, Mr. and Mrs. A.L. barton. He grew up on the Barton community and was married to Miss Josephine Rebecca Barton February 9, 1911. They have made their home on their farm in Matador.

Mr. Barton had visited in his daughter's home many times and had a number of friends here.

Survivors are his wife; a son, Alfred Barton, Jr.; his daughter, Mrs. Groves; 5 brothers, three sisters, 5 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Attending the services from here were Mr. and Mrs. Groves, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Sweat, and Mr. and Mrs. O.V. Johnson, along with David Groves and Miss Carla Bohannon of Canyon.
