SOUTH BEND - Gertrude S. “Trudy” Fodroczi, 95, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at St. Paul's Retirement Community, South Bend. Trudy was born on May 15, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Anthony and Maryann (Ziolkowski) Zakrzewski. She graduated from St. Casimir's Grade School and Washington High School. On May 9, 1945, she married Paul J. Fodroczi, her beloved husband of 59 years. She is survived by her two sons, Denis (Barbara) Fodroczi of New Bern, NC, and David (Cynthia) Fodroczi of Hudson, WI; two grandchildren, Sara Fodroczi (Nick) Johnson of Dayton, MN, and Brian (Tracy) Fodroczi of Des Moines, IA; two great-grandsons, Cole Johnson of Dayton, MN, and Aiden Fodroczi of Des Moines, IA; and many treasured nieces and nephews who showered her with love and support in her later years. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Fodroczi ,and her six sisters, Esther, Evelyn and Rita Zakrzewski, Helen Rafalski, Loretta Bilinski, and Sylvia Trace. Trudy worked in public relations for Notre Dame for 23 years before retiring in 1992. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, South Bend. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and solving jigsaw puzzles, but enjoyed time spent with her family and special friends above all else. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at the St. Paul's Retirement Center Chapel, 3602 South Ironwood Drive, South Bend, where friends may visit for two hours prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to LOGAN Community Resources, Inc., PO Box 1049, South Bend, IN 46624, or a charity of your choice .
