ELGIN - Frieda Ahrens, 92, died in her home on Oct. 1, 2016. Born November 25, 1923 in Mosinee, WI, to Agnes and William Stengle, Frieda received her RN training in Milwaukee, WI at St. Mary's Hospital. On September 14, 1946 she married Lawrence Ahrens, and together, they traveled to Sheboygan, WI to Mission House Seminary where Lawrence studied and was ordained as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most of Frieda's time was spent serving as a pastor's wife in various churches in Missouri and throughout Illinois, their final church being in Elgin at New Covenant Fellowship. She worked for a time at Sherman Hospital. Frieda's calling and passion was to serve others whether it was Sunday afternoon dinner around the family table, caring for the ill and convalescing, or helping new mothers in practical ways with meals, laundry, or cleaning. Frieda is best known for her love for the Lord, love as a wife and mother, her commitment to praying for others, her smile, and welcoming hugs. She is survived by her children, Gene (Marilyn), Mark (Karen), Mary Anna (Ed), and Nelson, 17 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence to whom she was married for 68 years. The Memorial Service will be held at New Covenant Fellowship, 865 Parkway Ave., Elgin, IL 60120 on Sat., Oct. 15 at 10 AM. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to TLC Pregnancy Services, 825 Dundee Ave., Elgin, IL 60120.
