Raymond N. Parker, 97, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, dear friend and mentor died peacefully at the Woodland Park Care Center in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, December 13, 2006. He was born in Salt Lake City on January 1, 1909, and was the first baby born in Utah that year. He was the youngest son of William George Parker and Elizabeth Teuscher. He married Aleene Wheeler of Springville on June 18, 1933, went to Tacoma, Washington on a honeymoon and stayed until Aleene's death in March of 1986. He married Edith DePriest Obarr in October of 1986 and lived in Mesa, AZ, and Springville, UT, until health concerns required that they move to Provo, then Cedar Hills, UT. Edith still resides in Provo. During his life he owned a small Blind and Shade business. He retired from the maintenance department of the Tacoma Schools after 18 years of service; became a master gardener after retirement and gave years of public service giving clinics to gardeners all over the Western Washington region. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions throughout the years. He loved to serve others. Raymond loved his family and spent a great deal of time supporting his sons while they participated in baseball, basketball, football, Scouts, music, church activities and anything else that came along. He was a wonderful singer and was sought after for his beautiful tenor voice. He was an avid fisherman and loved trout and salmon fishing. His mind was always inventing something and he loved to tinker and create. There was not much he could not do with his hands. His devotion to those he loved and his sense of humor, which he never lost, endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. He will be greatly missed by them all. Raymond is survived by his wife, Edith; sons: Terry of Riverton, UT, Bill of Tacoma, WA, and Patrick of Centralia, WA; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. His eldest son, Raymond Bud, preceded him in death in 1999. Graveside services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Lakewood, WA on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. Mountain View, 253-584-0252
