Robert Bentley, age 86, of Hwy 105 South, died Sept. 27, 2016 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville. He was born January 22, 1930 in Watauga County. Robert was a member of Shulls Mills Baptist Church. He was a heavy equipment operator for more than 50 years. After retirement, he enjoyed building bird houses, gardening and sitting on his porch with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Debra Aldridge and husband, Chip, of Foscoe and Dexter Bentley and wife, Glenda, of Vilas; sisters, Katie Shore and husband, Joe, Brenda Cornett and husband, R.A.; brothers, Sam Bentley and wife, Betty, Ned Bentley and wife, Wanda, and Bill Bentley and wife, Helen; brothers-in-law, J.C. Anderson and wife, Betty, Franklin Cole and J. B. Greene. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Geneva Anderson Bentley; his parents, Roby Dewey Bentley and Ollie Mae Allen Bentley; sisters, Maggie Hicks, Earlene Lail, Pauline Townsend and Mary Ann Bentley; and brothers, Lewis and Reed Bentley.
Funeral services held at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Chad Cole. Graveside services and burial at the Shull Cemetery.
