Ezekiel grew up on a farm in Macon County, Missouri, about 7 miles east of the village of Atlanta, Missouri, in the community of Barnesville.
Ezekiel Thurman had three siblings:

On January 16, 1901 in Macon County, Missouri, Ezekiel married Maud Ethel Bealmer. They had 5 children:

Around 1906, Ezekiel was the proprietor of the Star Livery Stable near the southwest corner of the square in LaPlata, Macon County, Missouri. Then, he became an apprentice in the funeral home business. He was employed in this business in Laclede, Linn County, Missouri in 1918 and in Columbia, Missouri in 1920. By 1930, after learning this trade, he had opened his own undertaking business, the Thurman Funeral Home, in Richmond, Ray County, Missouri. His son Levan took over this business after his father retired.
Maud died in 1956 and was buried at Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond.
In October 1957, Ezekiel married Etta (Sutton) Orr.
Ezekiel died in 1964 and was buried beside Maud. Etta died in 1978 and is also buried at Sunny Slope Cemetery.
