Word was received in Sycamore this Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Frank H. Smith, an old-time resident of Sycamore, who died Nov. 10, at a hospital in Milwaukee at the advanced age of 96 years.
Mrs. Smith's maiden name was Anna Baker and when quite young she was united in marriage to Frank H. Smith who was a native of Montreal, Canada, but who came to Sycamore to reside in 1866. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, all of whom died many years ago.
Frank Smith was prominent in Sycamore affairs. He received the appointment of postmaster during Grover Cleveland's first administration and served four years. In 1890 Mr. Smith was appointed deputy sheriff by Sheriff Hiram Ostrander and also served in that capacity under the two sheriffs in office following Ostrander — Dan Hohm and F. Rompf. Mr. Smith, who died suddenly Nov. 29, 1903, was a prominent Mason.
Almost all of Mrs. Smith's Sycamore friends have passed on, but she is remembered as a lady of strong character and was an excellent neighbor and true friend.
Mrs. Smith's remains will arrive in Sycamore this Wednesday and the funeral will be held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon from Johnson's Chapel.
