Mrs. Houle was a life member of the American Legion Post 404 Ladies Auxiliary of Harrison. She loved to be a part of the American Legion with all of her friends kicking up her heels occasionally dancing to country music. She held many offices in the auxiliary and cooked in the kitchen. Mary relished playing pool with her friends Veda Hunter and Millie Ogg (Leota, Mi.) and her sister Jean. She spent many a day sewing, crocheting, quilting, canning, baking and winning some ribbons for them at the Clare County Fair.
Mrs. Houle is survived by her daughter, Donita Cunningham and husband Robert Cunningham of Gregory, Michigan, foster son, Randy Erb and wife Teresa of Parsons, Kansas, two grandchildren: Christine Cunningham of Ypsilanti, Michigan and William Cunningham and wife Teresa Cunningham also of Ypsilanti, three great-grandchildren: Cassie Debresen of Belleville, Michigan, Louis Bartlett of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Justine Bartlett of Gregory and Amber Sherman of Garden City, Michigan, three great-great grandchildren: Aaliyah Sherman, Jayden Sherman, Allison Earhart, and two great-great-great grandchildren: Ember Earhart and Liam Bartlett, a half-sister, Barb Mertz and a half-brother, Edwin Ruffing, her cousin, Carlene Bauer and many more cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Houle also was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Lucille Bombard, Jean Schill and Florine Whited.
The funeral mass for Mrs. Houle will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 310 South Broad St., Harrison, with Father Marcel Portelli officiating.
Interment will be in St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Harrison.
