Pvt. Alvin Redlinger Killed in Belgium

Another Boy From Harper-Keota Road Dies In Belgium
Pvt. Alvin A Redlinger, another fine lad whose home was on the Harper-Keota road, was killed in action in Belgium January 15, 1945.He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Redlinger and was 20 years old in August.

Alvin's parents received an official telegram on Tuesday, Jan, 23 that he was missing in action as of January 2.Just two weeks later they received another telegram stating that he was killed in action January 15 in Belgium.

Alvin entered the army in December of 1943, and took his basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas,He was at home on furlough last fall and left Fort Jackson, SC in October to go overseas with an infantry regiment.Up to the time he was reported missing his parents had had no work from him later than a letter written in England on November 20.

Alvin was born on August 10, 1924, a son of John and Clara (Sondag) Redlinger, and he was educated and spent his entire life prior to entering the service, in the Harper community where he was an exceptionally popular and highly respected young man.Besides his parents he is survied by a brother Bernard, who was honorably discharded from the army early in the war, a brother Cpl. John V. Redlinger who is serving in Italy, two younger brothers, James and Cletus, and three sisters, Mary, wife of Sgt. Everett Greiner, Leola and Virginia.

A Memorial Requiem Mass will be selebrated at St. Elizabeth's Church in Harper next Tuesday morning at 10:00, according to his pastor, the Rev. Father J. Schoenfelder.
