He was born April 11, 1926 at Fowler KS, the son of John and Bridgett (Hageman) Wenta. As a young boy, he attended the Fowler school system. He later attended Barber College in California. After his schooling, he joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. After his discharge, he returned to Fowler and began his career as a barber, farmer and working for the Wilburn Township before retiring.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors, going for walks, working in his yard, horses, and spending time with his family and friends.
On May 4, 1949, he married Betty A. Post at Fowler. She precedes him in death on January 12, 2009.
He is survived by: four sons, Larry Wenta of Fowler, Steve Wenta of Summerfield FL, Donnie Wenta of Monte Vista CO, Carl Wenta of Monte Vista CO; two daughters, Barbara Beckerman of Fowler, Deb Boese of Dodge City KS; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Kathy Hardaway; and a grandson, Brandon Wenta.
Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Fowler. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016, at the church. Interment will follow in the Fowler Cemetery, Fowler.
The family would welcome memorials to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Fowler Residential Care Center, or the Kansas Soldiers Home in care of the funeral home.
