Wilbert Earl (Bert) Cherry, 86, of Shallotte, NC, died April 4, 1997 in Columbia Brunswick Hospital. His first wife, Eloise Bryan Cherry, and his son, Bert Cherry, preceded him in death. Mr. Cherry lived in Wilmington, NC, from 1935 to 1957 where he was a Wilmington City Fireman. In Shallotte, he was an insurance agent and past commander of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary #1008. Survivors include his wife, Johanna Corneisse Cherry, two daughters, two sisters, and five grandchildren.

Memorial serices were conducted at 4 pm on Monday, April 7, 1997 at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, by the Reverend Francis Womack. Members of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary #1008 served as honorary casketbearers.
