Both attended Mobile County Training School. After graduation, Marcine entered the US Army and served his country. Both Mike and Rosa received bachelor degrees from Alabama State University and returned to Mobile in 1959 to begin teaching math and science, respectively, at Mobile County Training School. Later, Mike served at Bishop State Community College, where he organized the school's first baseball team and was Director of the NYSP program. At the time of his retirement, he was Director of Career Counseling and Placement at Bishop State. Rosa spent the bulk of her career as a math teacher at Vigor High School and retired after more than 38 years of dedicated service.
They are survived by their devoted daughter Moncenya (Marcus) Chatman Dawson, MD, and their precious granddaughter, Lailah Rose Dawson of Dallas, TX. Marcine will remain in the hearts of four devoted sisters and two devoted brothers. Rosa leaves to cherish her memories two devoted sisters. Both leave behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends across the country.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016. Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and Delta Sigma Theta sorority's ritualistic ceremonies will be held at Reese Funeral Home at 6pm. The Celebration of Life will continue on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 9 a.m. until the 11a.m. Celebration of Life Hour at Nazaree Full Gospel Church, 1695 W I65 Service Rd. N, Mobile, AL. The family will receive visitors and friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Bishop Joseph Phillips host Pastor, Rev. Derek Tucker Presiding, and Rev. N.L. Powe and Officiating Minister. Interment will follow in the Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Theodore, AL. Arrangements are entrusted to the careful direction of Reese Funeral Home 925 S. Bessemer Ave. Prichard, AL.
