Rev Bryant Lewis became the owner of the Holmesville Mill. Below the town on a rock dam was constructed. The mill was built by Reddick Taylor Sparkman and Thomas Arthur.
Lewis subsequently took Owen Conerly as a partner, who afterward became sole owner. Owens constructed a dam across the main river in 1857 or 1858.
The mill was purchased by William Guy who married Telitha Turnage widow of Rev Bryant Lewis. William and Telitha Guy lived in the two story residences in Holmesville. "History of Pike County Mississippi"

Note: The Lewis were of Welsh-English descent and their ancestors came to Virginia about 1775. Years later the Lewis family was found in North Carolina and later Mississippi.
Descendants of the Marion County Lewis bothers are outstanding citizens of the state. It has been stated that this family has furnished more preachers than any other of this state and the preachers of this family are prominent in the Methodist Episcopal Conference.
