Lillie Tessie Lott Bennett, 97, passed away Sept. 3, while in the care of Haven Hospice of Gainesville, FL. She was born in 1919 in Scipio, OK, to the late George Lott and Naoma Price Lott. She grew up in the Clovis, Portales and Roswell, New Mexico area. She was a resident of Lubbock and the Plainview area for over seventy years. First married to Bill Al Bond who drowned in a flood, she then married the late Roy Dean Bennett on Aug. 13, 1942. She was a survivor of World War II, the Great Depression, the dust bowl, tornadoes, family tragedies and multiple cancers. Through it all she raised three children with amazing calm and sense of purpose, unrelenting love and trust in God. She was humble and considered herself a simple woman, but she was not. She was a farmer, a business woman, a homemaker, an avid gardener, a talented painter and hobbyist. She had many friends and touched many lives. She will be dearly missed. Lillie is survived by her brother, William Theo Lott, of Milwaukie, OR; her daughter, Dorothy May Bond of Quitman, Texas; and her son, Dwight Roy Bennett of Gainesville, FL. She is also survived by a large number of close and cherished nieces, nephews, and related family members in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico; as well as six grandchildren scattered from Texas to Italy; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Lillie will be laid to rest next to Roy in the Lubbock City Cemetery by Resthaven Funeral Home following a memorial service held at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary in Lubbock, TX, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016.
