Since retiring with his family from his farm near Jefferson eight years ago, he had lived in this city where he was well known and highly respected. He was an active worker in the Christian church and was a member of the official church board.
Mr. Baker was born at Hughes Station, Ohio, on June 8, 1850, the son of Ephraim and Elizabeth Baker. He was next to the last of a family of twelve children.
At an early age he moved to a farm near Lafayette. As a young man he was an itinerant music master. From the time of his entrance into the church at the age of fourteen, he was ever interested in the church affairs, serving both as a Sunday school teacher and as superintendent. On August 8, 1878, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Frances Jacoby, who survives.
In 1902 he moved with his family to Clinton county, buying a farm near Jefferson. There he lived until he retired from farming.
Beside the widow, eight children survive. They are: Mrs. A. M. Henderson of West Lafayette; Mrs. Alta M. Bliss, Porter, Minn.; Clarence O. Baker, Frankfort; Herman M. Baker, Frankfort; Floyd O. Baker, Indianapolis; and Annis C. Baker, Elgin O. Baker and Gilbert T. Baker, all living at home.
The body now lies in state at the Endsley funeral home. This afternoon it will be removed to the family home on North Main Street.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the residence. Rev. E. E. Moorman and Q. A. Kennedy will be in charge. Burial will be made in the Bunnell cemetery.
