Dempsey Baker, president of the Farmers Mutual Insurance company, died suddenly, Sunday morning, at his home, five miles northwest of Lafayette. He arose in the morning in vigorous health, but while attending to the fires he dropped to the floor and passed away instantly. He was 83 years of age and had lived on the same farm 81 years. He served many years as director of the Farmers Mutual Insurance company, and had been president for the past thirteen years.

The funeral service was conducted at the West Lafayette Baptist church, of which Mr. Baker was an active member, on Tuesday.

There were four Baker brothers - Clark, Pressley, Orley, and Dempsey, and there were three sisters, W. E. Lowman's mother having been one of the three. One was the mother of Orley Reichart, and the third one was Mrs. Alice Relander, who lived near the Dempsey Baker home.
