Died at Hope Landing on the west bank of Aquia Creek, 15 miles from Fredericksburg. Was one of 23 members of the NY 107th who died of disease and were buried at Hope Farm near Hope Landing, and were later reinterred at the National Cemetery in Fredericksburg. In 1990 a sandstone memorial originally located at Hope Farm and listing the 23 soldiers was placed on display at the NPS Headquarters at Chatham Manor.

Mr. Brewer was 18 when he enlisyed on 7/29/1862 at Campbell, N.Y.. He was mustered in on 8/11/1862 and died of "brain fever" on 2/6/1863.
