EVA S. SUMNER, DIES
Eva Smith Sumner, 80, prominent educator, student counselor and businesswoman, died August 22, 1979.
An active supporter of the Utah Boys Ranch, Mrs. Sumner had been vice president and president of the board at the time of her death.
Mrs. Sumner, who graduated from the University of Utah in business education, began teaching at North Summit High School, Coalville. After gaining business experience at Pennzoil Co., Los Angeles, and ZCMI, she returned to teaching in 1946 at Stevens-Henager Business College.
She later taught and was vocational counselor at several schools in Granite School District. She also served as business coordinator for the district.
She had been chairman of the supervisory committee for the Granite Teachers Credit Union and was on the national executive board for Phi Chi Theta business sorority.
Mrs. Sumner was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had been a Relief Society president.
She was born June 8, 1899, in Manassa, Colo., to Elias Austin and Jesse [sic] Black [sic] Smith. She married Cecil Gee Sumner. All of us at UBR will miss her and her counsel.
