Cecil "Smith" Sumner was born January 20, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Cecil Gee and Eva Smith Sumner, where he was given his name and blessing by Apostle George Albert Smith while still at the hospital.

He peacefully passed away on May 5, 2014 at St. Mark's Hospital while surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family members.

He was married to Ann Openshaw; later divorced. They have two children, Jayne Sumner and Devon (Judy) Sumner, and eight grandchildren. He has one brother, Robert (Marilyn) Sumner, and one sister, Lois (Reed) Christensen. He has been married to Jane McCleary Sumner for the past twenty-nine 1/2 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eve Sumner.

He served in the British Mission from 1953 to 1955 and one month later was drafted into the U.S. Army. During his Army service, one of his responsibilities was Chaplain's assistant while stationed in Germany. After he was honorably released from the Army, he graduated from the University of Utah, and then began his professional career with IBM.

Friends and family may visit from 10:00-11:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the Sandy Granite South Stake Center, 2126 East Gyrfalcon Drive (10000 South), Sandy, Utah. The funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
