GIRL, 16, DIES HERE; INQUEST PLANNED
A coroner's inquest was scheduled for today or tomorrow to inquire into the death of Miss Verna Padgett, 16 years old, Junior at the Marco High School, who died at 11:45 o'clock Thursday night in the Freeman-Greene County Hospital.

It was reported that Miss Padgett was brought to the hospital here about midnight last Saturday, October 23, after she had drunk a quantity of medicine at her home southwest of Linton. The report stated that the girl had mixed some bottles of medicine from the family's medicine chest. No reason was given for the act, although it was reported that she had previously been ill, suffering from rheumatic fever.

She had remained in an unconscious condition at the hospital since her admission. Dr. Jack Turner, Greene County coroner, scheduled an inquest for today or Saturday morning.

Miss Padgett was born in Greene County on May 17, 1938, the daughter of Riley and Mabel Royal Padgett. She was a member of the Burris Chapel Evangelical United Brethren Church.

She is survived by the mother, Mrs. Mabel Padgett; the grandmother, Mrs. Martha Goad of Arkansas; four brothers, Donald Padgett of Ft. Meade, Maryland, and Donnie Dale and Eugene Padgett, all at home; five half-brothers, Waidess Padgett of East Chicago, Robert Padgett of Linton, John Hostetter of Elnora, Leo Hostetter of Lyons and Walter Steele of Bloomfield, and three half-sisters, Mrs. Mildred Cooksey of Dugger, Route One, Mrs. Irene Canady of Fairland and Mrs. Clara Grafton of Loogootee.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Newkirk Funeral Home at Pleasantville, where, it was announced, friends may call after 6:00 o'clock this evening.

The body will be removed to the Burris Chapel Church at 1:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the church at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, with Rev. Elva Hardy officiating and burial will be made in the church cemetery.

IN MEMORIAM
In memory of Verna Dean Padgett, who passed away October 29, 1954.
Many teardrops wet my pillow
Many night no sleep will come
Wondering if God in his great mercy
Will forgive you for the deed you have done.
Some may think that I've forgotten
When sometimes they see me smile
But little do they know the heartache
That I carry all the while.
