His mother died 1 March 1915 in Lorain County, Ohio and his father placed him in a boys home, Glenwood Manual Training School for Boys located in Bloom Township, Cook County, Illinois; he was 13 years old.
Before 1930, he met and married on 7 Sep 1929, Lucille Florence "Lucy" Davidson of Henry County, Tennessee who had moved to Chicago, Illinois. William W "Willie" Davis died on June 19, 1958, in Evanston, Cook, Illinois, at the age of 51, and was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Skokie, Cook County, Illinois. He predeceased his wife, Lucy.

In my family notes, his name was William James Davis nickname Willie. This is backed up by the Delayed Birth Certificate where by an affidavit signed by his sister, Ada Davis
Banister listed his name William James Davis signed on Sep 9 1941. Also the WWII Draft Registration listed his birthplace as Paw Paw, Morgan County, West Virginia.
