Gale Duane Bergquist left this world peacefully at the age of 87 to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on February 27th, 2014 at the Adventist Hospital critical care unit in the presence of his loving family and his pastor.

Gale was born in Bowman, North Dakota to John Oscar Bergquist and Erma Anita Bergquist (nee Irons) on January 31st, 1927.

John Oscar and Erma moved their family to the Longview, Washington area in 1936. Gale enlisted in the Navy on September 16th, 1944 with the permission of his mother at the age of 17. He was promoted to Seaman 1st Class on September 1, 1945. Gale was a gunner on LCI (L) 797 in the Pacific Theatre up through the liberation of the Philippines at Leyte Gulf. Gale was a Boxer in the Navy and around the southwest Washington area after leaving the Navy. Gale was very proud of his service in the Navy.

Gale married Eleanor Bartell June 27th, 1948 in Kelso, Washington. Together they had two sons John and Michael Bergquist. They later divorced.

Gale married Charleen Yvonne Fietzek on November 4th, 1961 in Longview, Washington. Together they had two sons Gregory and Jamie. Gale spent his career working in plywood and sawmills as a millwright in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska retiring in 1988.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents Erma and Oscar; three brothers John LeRoy, Gerald Glenn and Darrel Dean; and two sisters Erma Elaine and Karleen Marilyn.

Gale is survived by his wife Charleen. Sons John and wife Debbie, Michael, Gregory and wife Catherine, and Jamie; granddaughters Brianne and Haylee; grandsons Jeffrey and Brian; sisters Shirley June, Juanita Ione, Elsie Maye, and Rebecca Jo.
