Mrs. Irene S. Nowlin, who would have been one-hundred years of age next Feb 16, died at Tyrone Hospital at 3:40PM yesterday following an extended illness. She resided with a daughter Mrs. Ethel Thomas and a grandson Warren Thomas at 10 E 12th St. She is believed to be the oldest resident of Tyrone at the time of her death. Mrs. Nowlin was born Feb 16, 1879 at Centre Line, a daughter of Henry and Liza Chronister Cupp. She was married to Thomas Blair Nowlin on Feb 22, 1899 at Warriors Mark Methodist parsonage. Her husband died on Nov. 15, 1904. She had resided in Tyrone since 1912
Surviving are the following sons and daughters; Mrs. Ralph (Ethel) Thomas and Lawrence E Nowlin, Tyrone; Mrs. Jack (Jayne) Dietrick, Phillipsburg, Edgar Blain Nowlin Sr. of Warriors Mark and Thomas Blair Nowlin of Tampa, Fla., also 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and The Women's Society of Christian Services and the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
Funeral service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on MOnday at 2 pm with Rev. D Owen Brubaker, officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Getz and Searer Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and on Monday after 11 am at the church.
