Historical figure from The Holy Bible / Hebrew Torah, Reuben (Re'uven / Reuven / Rubin) was the head of the Israelite Tribe of Reuben and the firstborn son of Jacob and Leah. Reuben was both blessed and "cursed" by his father in the Book of Genesis as follows: "Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch" (49:3-4, KJV). Later Moses blessed Reuben's tribe, saying, "Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few" (Deuteronomy 33:6, KJV).
