Lila Evelyn Blackmer, of Effie MN was 90 years of age when she passed away at Bigfork Valley Hospital. She had been hospitalized for a few weeks due to complications of congestive heart failure, with which she had struggled for several years. She was preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Thea Jensen (Krogstad); and her sister, Irene Johnson.

Lila's fascinating life story gives a glimpse into a by-gone era. She was born at home, North Busties near Effie MN, in 1925. She attended a one-room school, walking the two miles to school each day! She graduated from Bigfork High School. She traveled, working as a book-keeper and file clerk for Mandel Brother's Depart Store in Chicago, IL. Riding the EL to work was a dramatic contrast to the horse drawn sleigh she had ridden during frigid Minnesota winters, as a youngster. Lila married Lawrence on the Jensen homestead on June 11, 1949. She became an assistant pulpwood semi-truck driver. She was an owner and operator for years of Bee & Jay Caf on Deer Lake Road, where she became widely known for her fresh homemade pies. Lila was a phenomenal cook, baker, quilt-maker and gardener.
