On January 29, 1860 he married Jane Middaugh from Rosetown, Pennsylvania. They would have eleven children together however most died very young. David and Jane appear in the 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 censuses with their children in Westfall Township, Pike, Pennsylvania.
Following the death of his wife, Jane, in 1906, David moved in with his daughter Lillie Culverwell and her husband living in Port Jervis, New York appearing there in the 1910 census. By the time of the 1920 census he is living with daughter Elva Bosler and her husband in Sawkill just outside of Milford, Pensylvania.
At this point-in-time I've been able to locate information on 8 of their 11 children.

David Heater
David Heater, formerly of Matamoras, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Bosler, at Sawkill, five miles from Milford, on Monday afternoon at three o'clock, Aged 87 years, 11 months and 19 days. Death was due to general debility.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bosler of Sawkill and Mrs. Frank Van Orstrnd, of Rifton, N. Y. The funeral was held this afternoon from the undertaking parlors on Wood, Hellemann and Degen in Milford. Interment in Laurel Grove cemetery.
