August 16, 2016 George was born to Francis and Margaret Langan on January 19, 1930, in Gregory, South Dakota. He passed peacefully with family present at his home in Carmichael, CA. George married Norene (Mitz) Allum on May 29, 1951 in South Dakota. He is survived by 11 of his 12 children: Mitzi Guthrie, Randall, Richard, Sandra VanderPol, Andrea Barrows, Lance, Rosemary Langan, Claudia Neal, Kimberly Langan, Gregory, and Penny Cimino; 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Francis M. Langan. George was the youngest of three children. He is preceded in death by his wife, Norene (Mitz), brother John Langan; son Michael Langan, and grandson Richard Guthrie, Jr. George's teaching career began in 1948 in South Dakota and spanned 40 years. In 1960 George moved his family to Carmichael, California and taught at SJUSD Arcade and Starr King middle schools until he retired in 1989. George also taught catechism at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. As a member of OLA, George participated in the Knights of Columbus. Coaching was a large part of George's life. Over the years he coached track, basketball, volleyball and softball at Arcade and Starr King middle schools; JV softball at El Camino high school; Little League; Camellia Bobby Sox and OLA co-ed softball. When George's children were older, he coached the family co-ed softball team, "All in the Family." George's coaching even continued into retirement as he coached and played on a Golden Seniors softball team. MONDAY, AUGUST 22ND - Vigil 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Rosary 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sierra View Funeral Chapel, 6201 Fair Oaks Blvd., Carmichael. TUESDAY, AUGUST 23RD - noon Funeral mass at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave., Citrus Heights.
