Mitz was born to Claude and Grace Allum on April 10, 1932 in Gregory, South Dakota. She passed at her home in Carmichael, CA due to multiple myeloma. She was received by the Lord peacefully on March 24, 2014, surrounded by George Langan, her spouse of 62 years, and many children and grandchildren.Mitz and George were married on May 29, 1951 in South Dakota. She is survived by her 12 children: Michael, Mitzi Guthrie, Randy, Rich, Sandy VanderPol, Andrea Barrows, Lance, Rosemary Langan, Claudia Neal, Kim Langan, Greg, and Penny Cimino; 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Mitz was the ninth of ten children. She is preceded in death by five brothers: Lloyd, Claude, Kermit, Isaac Kenton, and Buell Bennett; three sisters: Shirley Hudlicky, Wilma Andersen, and Ruth Kirkegaard; and grandson Richard Guthrie, 'Richie'. Mitz is survived by her sister Sheila Bowar of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.Co-workers loved Mitz, enjoying her quick wit, humor and fun nature while she worked as a teacher's aide at Starr King Exceptional School. Mitz was also the organizer of the annual neighborhood Fourth of July celebration. She had a big heart and welcomed everyone into her life.Mitz cherished being involved in all of her children's activities, including Will's Spikettes, Camellia Bobby Sox, Eastern Little League, and attending her grandchildren's various sporting events.Mitz was a devoted member of Capital Christian Center and was especially touched by the Singing Christmas Tree. She enthusiastically cheered on her sons and daughters who played on the church softball teams.Mitz, by caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by organizing family events, kept the family close and connected.
