"Richard Hendrix, son of John Hendrix and Catherine Hunsacker Hendrix, was born in Platte Co., Mo., about the year 1848, the exact date not now known, because of destruction of the family records. His parents died when he was young. He was united in marriage with Nancy St.John December 28, 1871. Mrs. Hendrix died June 3, 1937.
To this union eight children were born. Mrs. Rosa Lindsay, Virgil Hendrix, deceased; Mrs, America Porter, of Liberty, Mo., Ellen Gertrude Lockwood, deceased; Edgar Hendrix of the home, Elmer who died in infancy; Charles Hendrix of Winwood; amd Mrs. Eunice Foster of Edgerton.
In his last years Mr. Hendrix was blessed with the tender ministration of his family, and especially Mrs. Lindsay and Edgar, who were with him in the home two miles south of Edgerton, where he lived nearly 49 years, and where he passed into rest, January 13, 1941.
He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He had been a member of Mt. Zion Babtist church of Edgerton, since his early manhood, and lived a consistent christian life for seventy years or more.
Mr. Hendrix's life was long and useful and he was respected and honored by all who knew him. Funeral services at the home Monday at 2:00 P.M. conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Johnson, pastor of Edgerton Babtist church.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery. Music was under the direction of Miss Ermin Gwin furnished by Mildred Mizener, Martha Bryan, Holt Sodeman and Vernon Clements. Violinist, Doris Turney. Pallbeares were grandsons of the deceased."

A story by a brother of Richard Hendrix, Robert, said that when Richard was using a axe, he cut his foot and Frank James, brother of Jesse, made him a set of crutches from saplings so Richard could get around until his foot healed.

Children of Richard and Nancy Hendrix were Rosa Lindsay, Virgil, America Porter, Ellen Lockwood, Joseph & James (Twins), Charles, and Eunice Foster.
