"Nancy E. St.John, daughter of Joseph and Sarah J. St.John was born in Clinton Co., Mo., March 23rd 1854. She departed this life at the family home, June 5th 1937 at 7:30 p.m. aged 83 years, 2 months, and 13 days.
When she was a small child the family moved to Platte County near Edgerton and the remainder of her life was spent in this locality, the last 45 years, in the present home where she passed away. On Dec. 28, 1871, she was united in marriage with Richard Hendrix. To this union were born eight children, five of whom, with the aged companion survive. They are: Mrs Rosa Lindsay, of McFall, Mo., Mrs Americia Porter of Liberty, Mo., Mrs Eunice Foster of Dearborn, Mo., and Edgar and Charles Hendrix of Edgerton, Mo., two sons, Virgil and Elmer and Ellen Hendrix Lockwood, preceded her in death. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. Susie Dick of Oswego, Kansas, and four brothers: Andrew J. Gower, Mo., John W. Camden Point, Mo., Joseph H., Chula, Mo., and James F. of Oklahoma.
When a young girl, Mrs. Hendrix professed her faith in Christ and united with Mt. Zion Babtist church of Edgerton and continued in its fellowship until her death. She was a devoted and home-loving companion and mother and throughout her long and useful life she exemplified the true christian character in unselfish service to others. Her children rise up to call her blessed. She led an active, energetic life until about two years ago, when her health failed, and after much suffering, during which she was tenderly cared for by her children, she has entered into rest.
Services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 2:30 conducted bu Rev. Floyd Johnson, pastor of the local church and burial in the Mt. Zion cemetery."
