Enlisted, Feb. 2, 1903 in Troop 1, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. He transferred to Troop 3 which became Troop F, 1st Cavalry ( Squadron A ). Discharged from Squadron A, October 20, 1911.

When Squadron A Cavalry was called to the Mexican border, he enlisted in Depot Troop, March 14, 1916. Depot Troop took the place of the active Squadron, while at the border.

Attended, OTC, at Plattsburgh Barracks, NY, and commissioned 1 Lieutenant, Infantry, November 27, 1917 and promoted Captain, July 7, 1918. He was assigned to Company I, 49th Infantry Regiment then appointed as Battalion Adjutant. He was appointed Regiment Adjutant, June 29, 1918. Deployed to France, July 18, 1918, with the 49th Infantry. Returned to the States Jan. 21, 1919 and discharged from the service, Marc 10, 1919.

His brother Medwin was a member of Squadron A Cavalry 1893 - 1903; service with Troop A, NY Volunteer Cavalry, during the Spanish American War
