Enlisted, February 6, 1893, in Troop A Cavalry, NYNG, in New York City. He served in the ranks of Troop A and saw field service with Troop A during the Brooklyn Trolley Strike ( Jan. 1895 ).

As Troop A expanded into Squadron A, he was transferred to Troop then Troop 3. Then on, October 16, 1897, he was commissioned, 1st Lieutenant, Assistant Surgeon, assigned to Squadron A.

Spanish American War, May 2, 1898, the selected troopers of Squadron A reported to Camp Black, Hempstead, NY. On May 20, 1898 Troop A , NY Volunteer Cavalry was mustered federal service. He was appointed Acting Assistant Surgeon for Troops A & C.

He was assigned with the Cavalry Troops to Camp Alger, VA, for training. After training at Camp Alger, Troop A & C shipped out for Puerto Rico, from Newport News, VA, aboard the transport Massachusetts, July 28, 1898. The Troops came ashore, landing at playa, port of Ponce, PR, August 4, 1898. He was assigned to General Miles' Medical Staff in Puerto Rico.

He returned to the States with the Cavalry Troops, September 3, 1898, aboard the transport Mississippi, from Ponce, PR. The Mississippi docked at Jersey City, NJ, September 10, 1898 and discharged from federal service November 28, 1898, New York City.

He continued his service with Squadron A, and promoted to Captain, Assistant Surgeon, May 10, 1898.

In April of 1900 he saw additional field service with Squadron A during the Croton Dam Strike.

He resigned from Squadron A, October 23, 1903.
