Major League Baseball Player. He was a catcher for both the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets from 1961 to 1963 and then 1966. He played with the Indianapolis Clowns in the Negro American League and then signed with the Washington Senators. He was released by the Senators and then signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies at the 1960 winter meetings draft and hit .128 in 47 at-bats over 34 games with the Phillies in 1961. The Mets took him in the 1961 expansion draft. He batted .250 with six homers and 17 RBIs in 55 games for the 1962 Mets, who went 40-120, the second-most losses in major league history behind only the 1899 Cleveland Spiders (20-134). He also played for the Mets in 1963 and 1966, finishing with a .197 career average, nine homers and 30 RBIs in 462 at-bats over 201 games. After his career was over, he owned and operated a restaurant in Newport News, Virginia, before retiring to Bamberg, South Carolina. He passed away after a battle with cancer.
