Jennie and Thomas were married Christmas Day, 1877 at Altona, Knox County, Illinois, and raised a family of nine children. When land opened up for homesteading in Alberta, their family moved, settling in the Red Willow district. With Thomas becoming a Land Guide for the Dominion Government, their home became a stopping place for many travellers.

Jennie kept a dairy, and their family story is related in 'Red Willow Reflections', which includes lovely family photos.
