Cyrus Clark, son of Joseph and Elizabeth McAninch, was born near Amo, Hendricks county, Indiana, September 15, 1849, and passed away at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, May 31, 1928, being 78 years, eight months and 16 days old. When Mr. McAninch was about 16 years of age he moved with his parents to Ringgold county, Iowa; settling northeast of where Caledonia is now.
He was united in marriage to Mariah Case November 9th, 1870, and to this union were born twelve children, all of whom, with one exception, grew to womanhood and manhood in this county. Of these eleven children, ten live to mourn the loss of their father. His wife and daughter Mary Elizabeth preceded him in death some years ago. Those remaining are Mrs. Manara Campbell, Hamburg, Iowa; Clark and Joseph, of Neodesha, Kan.; Mrs. Anna Clark, of Ethridge, Mont.; Mrs. Arminta Hoglin, of Vancouver, Wash.; Mrs. Faye Nauman, of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Adda Shidler, Mrs. Chas. Wroughton, Oscar and Ebon, all of this county. Besides these children he has 46 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, (illegible) brothers and one sister surviving him.
Mr. McAninch was one of the early residence of this county having lived here some 62 years and has been acquainted with the growth of community and the county. He was an active worker in the church during his early life and by his living set an example for his children that he has never had reasons to regret and of which they are justly proud. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. He has fought a good fight and he has kept the faith. At last victory is his. We have lost and he has won.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Ringgold City church, being conducted by Rev. Jay Kirkendall, pastor of the Mount Ayr Methodist church, assisted by Rev. J. R. Nolte, pastor of the Ringgold church. Interment was in the Ringgold cemetery.
