He moved with his parents to Illinois where he grew to manhood. On July 4, 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Limbaugh. To this union were born seven sons, Ralph of Albion, Neb., Ray and Fred of Mount Ayr, Iowa, William of Redding, Iowa, Earl of Grant City, Mo., and Stanley of Blockton, Iowa, and Roy who died in 1901 at the age of seven years.
Those who are left to mourn his departure are his devoted wife, six sons, twenty-nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, James Austin, at Fort Morgan, Colo., and five sisters, Mrs. Carrie White at Prairie City, Iowa; Mrs. Lucinda Bump of Kingman, Kan.; Mrs. Lillie Wilson of St. Edwards, Neb.; Mrs. Martha Hewitt of Chenoa, Ill., and Mrs. Armina Blair who lives in Indiana.
He with his family moved to Missouri in 1894. In the spring of 1917 he moved to Ringgold county, one mile west of Hickory Grove church where he lived the remainder of his life.
He united with the Methodist church at Middle Fork in 1908 and continued in its membership until death.
Uncle Met, as he was best known, stood first of all as a loving husband and a good father. His interests were not confined to the home circle alone because his unselfishness and cheerfulness at all times endeared him to all who knew him and won him a lasting place in their hearts.
Funeral services were held at the Hickory Grove church Sunday, March 18, and burial was made in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. His six sons were pall bearers.
Those who came from a distance were Ralph Austin and John Limbaugh from Albion, Neb.; Mrs. Amanda Whiting from Chicago, Ill.; Henry Limbaugh and his wife and son and Celesta Limbaugh from Fontenell, Iowa.
Card of Thanks
We wish to express our thanks to our many friends and neighbors for their acts of kindness and words of sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father; also the beautiful flower offerings.
