Drew Peacock, Jr., 89, of Altha, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on April 18, 1925 in Altha and had lived here all of his life.

He was a graduate of Altha High School and attended Florida State University and University of Florida. He was a retired rural mail carrier with over 35 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII, serving four years in the United States Navy. He was on the Board of County Commissioners for four years, served 14 years on the Altha City Council working tirelessly to bring a centralized water system to the Town of Altha, and served on the Apalachee Regional Planning Council from 1984 until 2004. He was a lifelong member of the Lion’s Club, serving as president from 1975 until 1976, served on the Senior Citizens Transportation Board from 1992 until 2004, an active member of Altha PTO, an avid Wildcat Booster and a member of the McDonald’s Breakfast Club.

He married Rachel Chambers of Ocala in 1948. They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. He was an active member of Altha First Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Director and Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Drew and Ninver Kingry Peacock; one sister, Lucille Delaney; one brother, Gary Peacock.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Rachel Peacock of Altha; three daughters, Charlotte Lima and her husband, Juan and Linda Flanders and her husband, Jeff, all of Altha, and Kathy Lane and her husband, Travis of Morgantown, WV; two brothers, John K. “Sonny” Peacock and his wife, Jeanette of Altha and Wallace Peacock and his wife, Polly of Chattahoochee; two sisters, Evelyn Ganey of Anaheim, CA and Elizabeth Bailey and her husband, Morrell of Altha; a sister-in-law, Sandra Peacock of Marianna; four grandchildren, Jeffery Flanders, Erin Lima and her husband, Travis Ake, Jeremy Flanders and his wife, Adrienne and Drew Lane; three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Anniston and Lincoln Flanders; lifelong friend, Plassie Rhyne.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. (CT) at Altha First Baptist Church with Reverend Jim McIntosh officiating.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Altha First Baptist Church Building Fund / Children’s Playground.
