She was the youngest of 5 children born to Davis Cook and Nannie Lee Harmon.
Murrel graduated Baytown Robert E. Lee High School in 1943.
During her high school years, she met a good-looking guy named Nathan Herbert Boyett, Jr. in a local bowling alley.
They were married on March 9, 1946, after he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Murrel was an excellent seamstress earning extra money sewing for the public while raising 2 children.
She was worthy matron of The Livingston Order of Eastern Star Chapter 1139 as well as La Porte Chapter 683.
Murrel and Nathan enjoyed many years of bowling and earning many accolades.
They retired to the piney woods of Livingston where they enjoyed all things country. After Nathan's passing,
Murrel moved to La Porte, Texas to be closer to family but left behind one of her favorite activities (raking and burning leaves).
Murrel was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 50 years; brothers, Harold and Charles Cook; sisters, Melba Farr and Palona Beaird.
She is survived by her sister in law, Gerry Cook; son, Nick Boyett & wife Paula; daughter, Carol Boyett; grandchildren: Angela Hudson & Tim, Brian Boyett & wife Tracey, Nicki Boyett & husband Craig; great-grandchildren: Steve Smith, Jr., Ethan Lockard, Zachary Lockard; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Navarre Funeral Home.
