"Among the old settlers in this locality,we will name Old Uncle Stephen(others listed)...Old uncle Stephen was born in Guliford county N.C.,and was married to Miss Mary Quiett, and they came to Greene county in 1818, and settled land and set out the old Orchard. ...Mr. Riddle and his wife had 12 children.
The first murder in Greene County was committed at the house of Uncle Stephen Riddle." (Note He was not implicated).
