MRS. GLORIA LOUDEN

[Note: Mrs. Louden's obituary gives her married surname as Louden. However, her husband apparently on occasion used the surname Loudon, and that spelling is reflected in his Civil War records. It is not clear if that spelling was a clerical error. However, subsequent generations have used the same spelling as is employed by the family here.]

Mrs. Gloria Louden, aged resident of Tyrone, died at her home, No. 15 Lanners street, Tyrone, Sunday morning at 2:25 o'clock, following an extended illness with a complication of diseases.
Mrs. Louden was born at Loop, Blair County, on July 26, 1845, the daughter of Solomon and Mary Baughslough Wertz, pioneer residents of this county. On May 23, 1869, she was united in marriage with James A. Louden at the Lutheran church in Williamsburg.
She is survived by her husband and these sons and daughters: M. Wilmore Louden, Tyrone; Leeland A. Louden, Pittsburgh; Elizabeth J. Louden, Tyrone; Mrs. J. Howard Calderwood, Altoona; Mrs. Raymond Wogan, Juniata; Mrs. Arthur Aults, Tyrone; Mrs. Melvin Allison, Altoona. Three sons, Philip A., J. Blaine, and Thomas C. Louden, preceded the mother to the grave. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Julia Hileman, Hollidaysburg; Calvin Wertz, Altoona; Phlen Wertz, Iowa; Mrs. Ida Tippery and Miss Luella Wertz, both of Altoona. Mrs. Louden was one of 10 children in the Wertz family, and also had 10 children in her own family.
She had been a resident of Tyrone and vicinity for over 45 years. She was faithful member of the Lutheran church for 72 years.
The body can be viewed at the Louden home on Lanners street until 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when it will be removed to the funeral parlors of Fuoss and Glass, Pennsylvania avenue and Twelfth street, where funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Edward M.Morgan, pastor of the First English Lutheran church. Burial will be made in Grandview cemetery.
