Edward A. Campbell, 84, of Boonville, Indiana, passed peacefully on January 27th, surrounded by his family.

The only child of Revis and Gertrude (Hunsaker) Campbell, Edward was born January 16, 1936, in the rural Warrick County community of Eby. The family later moved to Boonville, where Edward spent many hours helping his father at Campbell’s Shoe Repair.

Ed married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Keys, in 1957, while pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree at Evansville College (University of Evansville).

Upon graduation, he was employed as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent Office in Washington D.C. After he graduated from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis (class of 1965) and passing the bar, Ed and Nancy returned to Warrick County to raise their three children. After forming a partnership with attorney Kenneth “Bill” Weyerbacher, Ed was elected Warrick County Prosecuting Attorney in 1971.

He was elected to serve as the first judge of the newly created Warrick Superior Court, taking office in January of 1977. He served for 24 years. In retirement, he continued to serve as Senior Judge for several years, while he and Nancy had the opportunity to travel, participate in Corvette Club activities, and spend time with friends and family until her untimely death in 2005 from pulmonary fibrosis.

The foundation of Ed’s life was built on his love and devotion to his family, his exceptional work ethic, and his dedication to honorably serve the citizens of Warrick County. He saw himself as a public servant, instilling this in all who worked with him. He and Nancy were members of Main St. United Methodist Church.

Ed is survived by his children, Susan (Edward) Frisse of Evansville, Stephen (Connie) Campbell of Newburgh, and Sara Campbell (Mark Dillman) of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Lauren Frisse (Daric Bailey), and Meredith and Caroline Campbell, and great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Marley. He was preceeded in death by his parents and by his wife.

Edward’s family thanks Hamilton Pointe Assisted Living for the great care of their father during his last few years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 21301 South Tamiami Tr., Suite 320 PMB 226, Estero, Florida 33928 or Main Street United Methodist Church, 222 East Main Street, Boonville, IN 47601.
