John Madden was the son of William and Malinda Madden. Malinda was the daughter of John and Hester Cooper. This makes John the Coopers' grandson and the nephew of General Joseph A. Cooper who made a name as a memorable general in the Civil War in Tennessee.
John's parents moved to Texas in 1878 and settled in Denton, Texas where they died and are buried in the IOOF Cemetery. They lived to contribute much to the community and left a large family. John's brother Christoper Columbus Madden, born 1856 in Campbell County, left Tennessee for Missouri and died there in 1889, leaving a family that eventually also reached into Texas and still lives there today.
