Mary was 58 years old in the 1940 Census, thus making her birth year 1882. I have not been able to find the correct year of her death, nor her grave site. I believe she would have been buried in the St Malachy-West Cemetery. Pittsboro, as her parents were and some of her siblings. I will correct the year of death, should I ever find an obituary or other clues. I don't want her to be forgotten, as I remember her being the Post Mistress with Ida Jones as our mail carrier, when I was a child. Yes, two ladies did that themselves. Mary was the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Hugh) Dugan. They both came to America from Gallaway, Ireland at a very young age, and were parents of eight children.
Mary's sibling were Ellen, John J., Katherine, Martin, Delia, Patrick and Anna.
Mary graduated in the year of 1898, and was the only girl to do so. Her four class mates that graduated with her were Tom L. Dillon, Murat Keeney, Fred Worrell, and Aubrey Pebworth. Mary was the last surviving class member in 1972, at the time of Murat Keeney's death.
There is a big write-up for her brother John J., however, Mary served the town and the community of Middle Twp. as the Post Mistress with the help of Ida Jones as the Mail Carrier to the rural area, and I believe, did a great job, and both should be remembered.
I don't know for sure that Mary is buried in the St Malachy-West Cemetery, so I am placing her in the "Unknown category, and will change if I find prove differently.
