ABNER PITNER CODER, son of GEORGE H. CODER and ALIDA PITNER CODER, was born 7 July 1849 in Danville, Montour County, PA. In 1850 his family moved to Shamokin, Northumberland County, PA. He married AMELIA G. PITNER (Minnie) of Shamokin, Northumberland County, PA, who was born in 1847. Abner and Minnie were married at the home of Minnie’s aunt HARRIET RUSSELL of Riverside, Northumberland County, on 25 December 1873 in a service conducted by Rev. A.S. Bowman. They had 2 children: HATTIE CODER b. 1876 and JOHN C. CODER b. 1879 who married HELEN E.___. John worked as a treasury clerk in Washington DC.
Abner worked for the Shamokin Herald and on 1 July 1874 became a co-owner of the paper along with Elmer Hefflefinger. He was an officer of the Shamokin chapter of the Patriotic Sons of America. After 1880 he and his family moved to Washington DC, where he was a printer for the U.S. government.
