"Aunt Letty", a former slave, listed on the 1870 census as a house servant of the Horne family. She is buried in the black section of the cemetery with a tombstone lovingly erected and inscribed by the white family she cared for.
The inscription reads "Aunt Letty, Nurse of Simeon Horne, died Feb. 1882, over 90 years of age. Our Father's and our own black mammy, with her tender care she nursed three generations of the family. We Loved Her."
The 1880 census shows that she had remained with the Horne family and even took the Horne name as her own.
