Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Justine McHenry; and three sisters, Sue Shoulder; Virginia Carte and Marie McHenry. He graduated from Sand Fork High School and was inducted into the army during World War II. His basic training was in artillery at Fort Bragg, NC and paratrooper training at Fort Benning, GA. Later, he was shipped from California to the Philippines and Sendi, Japan. After receiving his discharge from military service, he attended the Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN. Then in Charleston, WV, he became an Atlantic Greyhound Lines bus driver for 36 years. He also served as president and treasurer of Atlantic Greyhound Federal Credit Union and later became the secretary-treasurer of Local 1493 Amalgamated Transit Union. He was a member of the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, Cross Lanes, WV.
