Alton McCleskey, 87, a former Milan resident, passed away on Nov. 5, 2006, at the Sierra Health Care Center in Truth or Consequences.

The youngest of four children, he was born on Feb. 11, 1919, in Santo, Texas, to James Walter McCleskey and Alphie Helon Trammell McCleskey.

Mr. McCleskey married Helen Jean Wileman on Sept. 2, 1947. He worked in mining at Mogollon, ran a sawmill above Winston in 1950 and worked at a cabinet shop in Albuquerque. He built his first home in Albuquerque and started body shop work in 1952 before moving to Gallup and working for Rico & Amigo Motors in 1953, then relocating to Grants and working in a body shop there for awhile before moving back to his house in Albuquerque again. In late 1958 he built a house in Milan and opened the Febco Body Shop on Febco Street in Milan, which he operated from 1959 to 1984 before retiring to Farwell, Texas, Belen and Los Lunas.

Mr. McCleskey is survived by his first wife Helen Jean Wileman McCleskey of Milan; his second wife Loyce M. McCleskey of Washington; his sons Larry James McCleskey and wife Becky of Santa Fe and Ronald L. McCleskey and wife Tracie of Los Lunas; his daughter Judith Elaine McCleskey Whitney and husband Henry (Mike) of Sapulpa, Okla.; his sister Josie P. McKinley of Truth or Consequences; his oldest nephew Ray McCleskey and wife Maggie of Truth or Consequences; his nieces Alphie Carter of Truth or Consequences and Jean Tatman and Wayne of Truth or Consequences; his eight grandchildren Shawna Lamb, Jeannie McCleskey, Stephanie Thompson, Randy McCleskey, H.J. Jaramillo, Jamie Bizzell, Amanda Funk and Shayla Switzer; his four step-grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren Kolton Lamb, Dylan Lamb, Tyrus Jay Bizzell, Mya Jaramillo, Jaycob Jaramillo, Chloe McCleskey, Skylar Funk and Ashton Funk and his five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Janice Louise McCleskey; his brothers Bernard McCleskey and Melbourne McCleskey; his nephew Charles Preston McCleskey and his great-nephew Curtis Lynn McCleskey.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 18, 2006, at Caballo Cemetery south of Truth of Consequences. His oldest nephew Ray McCleskey officiated.

Kirikos Family Funeral Home and Sierra Crematory of Truth or Consequences were in charge of arrangements.
