From the Ossian Journal:
The death of John Byron Ady occurred about four o'clock Wednesday afternoon at his home in Ossian, his demise being due to heart trouble and uremia. Mr. Ady was a retired farmer and civil war veteran, and was 83 years of age last May. He was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, may 10, 1844, and came to Indiana with his parents when three years of age. His parents were Jonathan and Hannah (Neering) Ady, well remembered Jefferson township pioneers, living west of Ossian. Mr. Ady served in Company A, 34th Indiana Volunteers. After his discharge he returned her and engaged in farming. His marriage to Miss Loretta E. Sowle, also of this township, was November 19, 1868. Mrs. Ady died last September 23.
Five children survive, Mrs. Victoria Brickley, of Uniondale; Julia L., the wife of Forrest Wolf, of Moore, Okla.; Isaac J. Ady, of Webb City, Mo.; Dora A., the wife of Charles Layton, of Osborn, Ohio; June I., the wife of Christian Miller, of Cleveland, Ohio. Three children are deceased, Locasta, who was the wife of Lee Byerly of Fort Wayne; Blanche and Iola, who died in childhood. There are thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sister of, Mr. Ady are living, Mrs. F.M. Thurber and Mrs. Robert Ping, both of Bluffton. A half-sister, Mrs. Earl Bodine, resides Los Angeles, Calif.; and a half-brother, Munson Foughty, at North Jackson, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Ady moved from their farm to Ossian in 1912. Mr. Ady was a member of Prospect M.E. church since young manhood, moving his membership to Ossian in recent years. He was a member of the G.A.R. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.

5'7 1/2"; eyes gray; complexion light; color of hair light; occupation farmer; born in Delta County (now Fulton), Ohio.
